Third Definitive - New Currency Overprint
1966, 30 May
Printer: Thomas De La Rue

- The overprint on the stamp is shifted to the left and part of the "D" is missing on the left, but is visitlbe on the right side of the stamp.
- These are the varieties of the "1" on the 1 Riyal stamp. The variety 1c was the most difficult one for me to find. The other two being fairly common.
The overprint was applied by the Dubai National Printing Press to all values except the 5R and 10R values, which was done by De la Rue. The values are obliterated by two horizontal bars with the new currency printed in Arabic and English, with the exception of the two high values, which are in Arabic only. The only value to have an actual numerical value overprinted on it is the 1R. All others only have the new currency written in Arabic and in English. The 5dh through the 40dh values have the currency abbreviated in English, but in full in Arabic.
As it typical with most locally overprinted items, the type setting involving the English portion was not of the highest quality. For the values where the curency is totally spelled out in English, various fonts were used and mixed together. This has created numerous varieties. Two types of fonts were use with varying thickness and were mixed on some of the printing. The obliterating bars are found of various lenghts and in different positions as well. The 1R exists with three different varieties of the "1".
The 1.50R value of the set was not overprinted.
