Jazz Appreciation Month - April
Jazz Apprecian Month, also known as JAM, was created at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. in 2001 to recognize and celebrate
the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz during the month of April. The first poster was created for 2002 and are given free to anyone requesting them. They were distributed folded, but a few exist with no folding.

The HotHouse, Chicago, Illinois
The HotHouse has physically been located at two
different venues: 1565 N. Milwaukee and 31 E. Balbo. After closing
it's last venue it schedules events at various locations in Chicago, IL,
Michigan and out of the country (Cuba).

LEFT: This is an unusual item given to me by Fred Anderson who is portrayed in this print. It is printed on a quality paper which differs from that used on the issued poster and was given to him by the Earshot Festival people as this was the layout of the poster that was being created for the festival. Fred appeared with the Art Ensemble of Chicago and the event was recorded with a recording and later released on a 2 CD set by Famoudou Don Moye on AECO. I was thanked in the notes on the back of the CD. When Fred was moving his Velvet Lounge to the new location I was helping him and when cleaning out the Old Velvet Lounge I found this among stacks of paper and other items. I had no idea what it was at the time. Fred's good friend Andy Pierce, who had been helping him with what was called by everyone "The New Velvet Lounge, told Fred to keep this when I found it. Months later, Fred gave it to me as he knew I collected jazz posters.
